Reynolds and Zuckerman Fellowships (Deadline: January 6, 2006)
The Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation Fellowships in Social Entrepreneurship seeks to support students whose imagination and ingenuity can have a positive impact on confronting social problems in America and around the world. The Fellowship recognizes the important contribution real-world practitioners can make in solving urgent social problems. The program is available to master's degree candidates at Harvard's Graduate School of Education, John F. Kennedy School of Government, and School of Public Health; it provides funding for one or two years, based on the normal duration of the master's degree program. Fellowship awards include full tuition support, health insurance fee coverage, and a $20,000 annual stipend. Fellows also participate in a dynamic co-curricular program organized by Harvard's Center for Public Leadership at the Kennedy School of Government.
Current HGSE Reynolds Fellows are a diverse and talented group. They include teachers, business analysts, and educational program and policy consultants. Upon completing their master's programs, they intend to combine their significant past experience with the skills and knowledge acquired through an HGSE education to bring innovation to teaching and other areas of education.
The Zuckerman Fellows Program at Harvard University seeks to prepare talented young people with backgrounds in business, law, or medicine to engage in the public sector from an interdisciplinary perspective. With intensive training in two disciplines, Zuckerman Fellows will be armed with a broad base of knowledge and a depth of perspective that will give them exceptional promise as future leaders.
Zuckerman Fellows are selected based on their leadership, intellectual and academic achievement, and commitment to public service. U.S. citizens who hold or are currently earning a degree in business, law, or medicine and who wish to earn an additional degree at Harvard's Graduate School of Education, John F. Kennedy School of Government, or School of Public Health are eligible to apply. Fellows receive one year of financial support, including full tuition and health insurance fee coverage, and a stipend of $30,000. Zuckerman Fellows also attend seminars and symposia with distinguished Harvard faculty, meetings with public leaders from a variety fields, and an annual convocation in Washington, D.C.
Current HGSE Zuckerman Fellows embody the goals of the program, applying the strengths of prior training in business, law, and medicine to the challenges of education in the 21st century. One recent business school graduate, whose background includes investment banking and tutoring in New York City schools, plans to use the Ed.M. to move into a leadership position in a public school system. Another fellow holds a law degree, practices real estate law, and is using her fellowship to earn a degree through the Teacher's Education Program in order to bring her life experiences to the classrooms of urban children.
